The dictionery states that a Toastmaster is a person who announces speechs at weddings and functions. While this may be true and is what most hotels advertise in their literature and websites, there is a world of difference between what a hotel duty manager does and a professional Toastmaster does.
Amongst other jobs, a Toastmaster greets guests on arrival, and directs them to a gathering point, takes cards and presents and puts them to one point, carries the dress, handles drinks and canopies for the couple, has a large collection of things for emergencies, umbrellas, needles and cotton, glues, spare tights, firsta id kits, plus much more, as well as directing guests to the right place at the right time and ensuring the couple have no stress or worries.
The actual announcements are perhaps 5% of the work carried out by a good Toastmaster.
So do not be fooled into thinking you are getting the same service from a Toastmaster or Master of Ceremonies when included in a hotels price. You are getting a poorer service instead. Much better to not have a chocolate fountain, and book a Toastmaster instead.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! KINGS CROFT HOTEL PONTEFRACT ARE ADVERTISING A FREE RED COAT TOASTMASTER AS PART OF THEIR PACKAGE.THIS PERSON DOES NOT LOOK TO BE A TRAINED TOASTMASTER IE INCORRECT BOW TIE, WAISTCOAT, TROUSERS, NO GLOVES AND WRONG TYPE OF SHOES. WHAT SERVICE WILL THEY PERFORM IF THEY CANNOT EVEN GET DRESSED PROPERLY?????
Do you want the most relaxed, enjoyable, and memorable wedding day ever!
Then you need the Toastmaster services provided by Michael Kellett (member of the English Toastmasters Association), which is the ONLY association which members refrain from alcoholic beverages while working. The rest do not and some are quite a sight when they have downed a bottle and half of wine.

With nearly 40 years experience as a DJ, Wedding Photographer and now a Toastmaster, you are bound to have the day of your life that you dreamed of just the way you want it, formal, relaxed or a mixture of both.
Well before your spcial day, the details are discussed and noted and your thoughts made into a reality.
To cover for any eventuality, Michael carries equipment which has a list a mile long of all the things that you may need but have not got (a zip repair kit, wellies for wet weather, glues, needles and cottons in many colours, sting cream, clear nail varnish for ladders in tights, spare clips for pierced ear rings, plus toothpaste, deodorant, pins, first aid kit and cufflinks for the men). This kit of equipment is certainly the most comprehensive carried by any Toastmaster in the North of England, and Michael even has his own Public address system for when you have a lot of guests and quiet speakers.
Do not leave to luck, or to the hotels own duty manager who has possibly not had the training or experience to look after you the way they should. Telephone for a chat or quotation and details, or contact the website

Some Photography tips for budding photographers or more experienced photographers who never seem to have enough time.
1. Ensure you know what the customers wants and is expecting. Taking photos in the wrong style will not endear a customer.
2. Know your church or venue like the back of your hand for backgrounds, and interesting features.
3. Plan your photo taking so that the guests are waiting for the minimum time (start with say the groom, add mum, then dad, lose mum, take mum and dad together, groom with best man, then ushers etc.)
4. When taking family pictures start with say the grooms side, couple with grooms mum and dad, then add siblings, then partners, then rest of family. Bak to couple plus grooms mum and dad, but then add brides mum and dad. Lose grooms parents, then add brides siblings, then partners, and then rest of family. By doing this conveyor approach the people concerned are on maybe once before not needed anymore and can relax with other guests.
5. Know your camera and what are it's limits.
6. Check all equipment at least the day before. Are any batteries charged and some spares available? Is the camera working correctly? Always carry spares.
7. Some photographers use very large memory cards 8Gb /16Gb to take a high number of photographs before changing. This is not a good practice as memory cards can fail (I have had two cards go faulty and photos on the card become unreadable in 11 years. Also a camera blew over in the wind and the camera could not read the images previously taken (over 200 on a 2Gb card). I suggest using 2Gb cards numbered from A or 1 and sequenced so that you know which order the photos were taken and can download them in the same sequence.
8. I see many photographers posing the groom on the left and bride on the right when looking at the couple. This is not the normal accepted arrangement. The groom should be on the right hand side of the bride, leaving his right arm free to enable hime to draw his sword (handed down from medieval times) which he could not do if the bride is on his right side.
9. When I was training, every instructor was adamant that you must always use a tripod for the camera, it keeps guests away from your spot and makes it easy to take the photos in low light conditions. Most photographers do not seem to use a tripod anymore saying it makes reportage easier.
WeddingToastmaster Services by Michael Kellett.
What does a Toastmaster Do!
At a wedding a Toastmaster greets guests as they arrive and directs them to a gathering point be it the lounge, bar or outside on a sunny day.
The bridegroom and attendent's buttonholes are correctly pinned in place and any nerves calmed before the ceremony.
Everyone is gathered into the room and seated ready for the bridal party to be brought to the entry door. A tissue is given to the bride and bridesmaids if needed and a smile put on the bride ready for the long walk.
Once the ceremony is over the guests are directed to an area outside for photographs, the Toastmaster finding any missing guests so that the photographs do not take hours.
During this time the dress is carried, glasses of champange held, canopies fetched, any presents moved to a table in the hotel, and generally making sure all guests are happy pointing out toilets and other amenities.
When the time comes for a receiving line, the couple, parents, best man and bridesmaids are gathered and lined up before shaking hands with all guests.
The new couple are announced into the reception room and the wedding breakfast begins.
After the meal the speeches are announced and presents handed out.
Using a Professional Toastmaster over allowing the venues duty manager to announce the speeches, is that the Toastmaster is looking after you on your behalf, and not like the duty manager who is looking after the Hotel on their behalf.
The main difference between other Toastmasters and Michael is the amount of equipment carried for any of those little emergencies. A full boot area of his estate car has boxes full of toothpaste, brushes, combs, hair styling gel, shampoo, hair spray, deodorant, gel pads for shoes, three first aid kits, glues, sticky tape, needles and cottons, velcro, tie wraps, pins, safety pins, wellies for wet weather, pashminas for cold weather and bridesmaids with off shoulder dresses, umbrellas, a tile to stand on when ground is soft (for the bride) plus raffle tickets, wire and tape to make new button holes, even a ratchet strap to keep a broken exhaust off the floor while driving to an exhaust centre.
A PA system and microphones and music facilities is available for larger venues and high number of guests.
